Student Support.

A team of child development experts works alongside your child's teachers. Staff use a Positive Discipline Behavior Policy drawn from Dr. Montessori's philosophy and current research. Expectations are held firmly, with kindness and empathy. Misbehavior is treated as a chance to learn. In Elementary, literacy happens in classrooms and small reading groups, with an in-house reading specialist guiding students in comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and word study.

Jo Anne teaches literacy across content areas and works with elementary students of diverse skill, from those who learn differently to the gifted. Her approach encourages students to take ownership of their own literacy learning. She helps them build effective strategies and develop a lasting love for reading and writing. Outside school, she enjoys reading, traveling, and visiting with friends.

Andrea supports students' growth as readers and writers. Her career spans elementary teaching, special education, Title 1 reading, and one-to-one tutoring. She teaches the strategies and mechanics of reading, comprehension, and writing. She works with both students and teachers, and enjoys watching students become independent learners. She likes travel, gardening, and time with family and friends.

Susan is the full-time school nurse, providing daily support for student health and wellness. She manages health forms and addresses injuries and illnesses. She has over 30 years of nursing experience, including 14 years as a manager and Director of Nursing and 15 years as a clinical instructor at Penn. Her children attended Gladwyne Montessori, which drew her to the school.

Dominique Desir of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) serves as school counselor each Friday. She works directly with children on an as-needed basis. She assists faculty in supporting children and connects the school with services and evaluations through Montgomery County. She also works one-on-one with students for short-term and long-term support and coaching. Dominique has served the school for several years.

Elizabeth is the Toddler Department Coordinator and works closely with the Infant and Toddler assistant and lead teachers. She taught kindergarten in Maryland before staying home with her three sons. She first came to Gladwyne Montessori as a parent and joined the faculty in 2016. She teaches Positive Discipline Sessions for families. She values respectful connections, independence, and emotional regulation at each child's own pace.
